Abstract

This study addresses the problem of low student engagement in Aqidah Akhlak (Faith and Morals) learning, which is often caused by monotonous teaching methods. The research aims to analyze the process, effectiveness, and constraints of implementing group discussion methods to increase student participation at MI Nurul Mukhlasin Kabandungan. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, then validated by source and technique triangulation. The results indicate that the systematic implementation of group discussions—through contextual material planning, interactive group formation, guided discussions with worksheets, and presentations—significantly increases active student engagement by creating a dynamic and constructive learning environment. The conclusion is that this method is effective in transforming learning from a doctrinal approach to a constructive experience. The theoretical implication is the strengthening of Vygotsky's social constructivism and the proposal for a "Spiritual-Emotional Cooperative Learning" framework. The practical implication is the availability of a contextual operational guide for teachers to design participatory religious learning, with a recommendation for further research to test the model's long-term effectiveness on character value retention
